Six Nations Toy Bingo Generates over $141,000 for Local Schools
SIX NATIONS OF THE GRAND RIVER, ON –Jan 17, 2018 – Each year, in the months of November and December, Six Nations Bingo opens its doors to seven local elementary schools to host a weekly Toy Bingo. Instead of cash prizes, customers play for toys and electronics. For most schools, this is their primary fundraiser for the year.
Six Nations Bingo provides the cards, the facility, and the staff to run the event, and assists the schools to market each Toy Bingo Fundraiser. It is up to the schools to secure prizes, sell baked goods, and run additional fundraising activities such as toonie tables or 50/50 draws. “It really is a community effort to host the event,” said John Heathers, Director of Gaming. The fundraiser flourishes from the support of the community who volunteer, donate prizes or come out and play with their friends and family. “This season, the seven schools collectively raised just over $141,000, which is a 10% increase from last year.”
The fundraiser was created nearly two decades ago by local teachers and is now regulated by the Six Nations Gaming Commission and proudly supported by Six Nations Bingo, a sub-department of Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation.

Six Nations Bingo Donates over $795,000 to Local Non-Profits
Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) and Six Nations Bingo is proud to announce their contribution to the Six Nations Sponsorship Program in the amount of $795,378 for the 2017 Calendar year. Six Nations Bingo has been donating 40% of their annual net profits to the Six Nations Sponsorship Program since a permanent bingo facility was constructed. In May 2015, the management of Six Nations Bingo was transferred to SNGRDC who continues to support the Sponsorship Program through annual contributions. This year, Six Nations Bingo was able to increase its contribution by 22% over last years contribution. This increase, was in part a result of the introduction of the new 24 Ball Virtual Bingo game, which can be played by patrons, over the age of 18, anytime during regular bingo hours.
The Six Nations Sponsorship Program supports over 30 local non-profit organizations and initiatives each year, with priority given to minor sports teams. The program emerged after a group of community members and volunteers began hosting weekly bingo games in the old Community Hall over 50 years ago, as a means to raise funds for minor sports teams. Now, the sponsorship program is run the by the Six Nations Gaming Commission and fuelled by annual contribution by Six Nations Bingo. At the beginning of each year, a projected contribution is announced to the sponsorship program in order for them to begin dispersing funds. Once SNGRDC annual audit is completed, a final total is announced and additional funds are made available to the program. In 2016 the estimated contribution was $583,000, however due to a successful fourth quarter the contribution total rose to $649,411.
Teams and organizations can apply to the Six Nations Sponsorship Program by contacting Six Nations Gaming Commission directly at [email protected] or (905)-765-1490.
